Our Team:

Talofa! American Samoa consists of several islands, the main island of Tutuila, 'Aunu'u, and the Manua island group of Ofu, Olosega and Ta'u. We have worked with several of the schools on Tutuila including Coleman, Leatele, Manulele, Matafao and Olomoana. This year's projects are from Olomoana in the village of 'Aoa on the eastern side of Tutuila and Manulele in Tafuna on the central western side.

Our Projects:

History Project

Each year American Samoa hosts competitions in academic subjects such as History and Science. This project is 'Aoa's 2nd place winner in History. This all girl team was the only one to show a multimedia presentation. They scanned in pictures from their research, filmed other parts and created a narrated iMovie. Congratulations girls!

ASL in Samoan

Manulele school has several deaf educators. They wanted to produce a video for the parents of the children they teach to help them learn American Sign Language. They asked the parents what phrases would be most helpful to know. They also added other phrases to help with school topics. Hofeni and Martha filmed it with 2 cameras, one on the teacher, one on the child as they faced each other and edited it together. This way the parents would see the "correct" sign as well as be able to recognize the child's sign. Meanoa and Mu narrated the video in Samoan, the first language of most of the parents. Titles were in English for the English speakers and to practice reading. A truly tri-lingual video!
