Our Team:

Aloha kakou mai ke Kula Kaiapuni 'O Anuenue. Anuenue is a K-12 Hawaiian language immersion school in Hawai'i located on the island of O'ahu in Palolo Valley. Many of the kumu or teachers at Anuenue integrate technology into the curriculum. Kumu Moani Lee teaches Hawaiian Language Arts to the high school students. She has participated in Pacific Voices projects for the last few years along with the students of the class of 2006 (Kahaleali'i, Keone, 'Aukai, Hanalei, Kawailani, and Waianuhea).

Our Projects:

Coconuts

Kumu Moani and the Class of 2006 participated once again in an exciting Video Teleconference (VTC). The theme of this VTC was coconuts. The participants for this VTC was Hawai'i (Ke Kula Kaiapuni 'O Anuenue), Palau (George B. Harris Elementary School), and American Samoa (Olomoana Elementary School). All the participants learned about the similarities and differences of how each culture uses coconuts.

Our hope is that this, our second VTC, can serve as a model for future VTCs between schools around the Pacific. We've learned many lessons both good and bad.

We haven't tested out the dv out from the VTC camera so this project had a camera shooting at each site. All of the raw footage was sent to Hawai'i, imported into iMovie, edited down to a 45 minute piece, titles were added, PowerPoint slides were added in, and then exported to share with all of you. The editing took a few hours to do.

We look forward to more VTCs this year and hope that it will be as successful as the last two. Thanks to all who participated in the last two and for being patient with the technology as we push it to it's limits.
